Discover Haiti, Rediscover Yourself

Volunteers For Peace marks over 15 years of collaboration with grassroots Haitian community organizations! Since 2011 we have sent over 400 volunteers to rural communities. Our projects foster civic engagement and community development and focus on clean drinking water, education, and the environment. We hope you will join us on a life-changing volunteer opportunity in Haiti!

Check out our 2015 Fall and Winter projects!

November 21-28, 2015 Our Thanksgiving Week Project supports the amazing accomplishments of the community organization Clean Water For LaVallee. Plant trees, paint murals, educate youth and more.

December 27, 2015 - January 9, 2016 Our New Year Project is an opportunity to celebrate Haiti’s Independence, dive deeply into the culture, support a local Kite Festival, and share your artistic talents with the people of LaVallee. We also offer a 1-week version of this project from December 27, 2015 to January 3, 2016.

A Recent History of VFP Work in Haiti

  • In December, 12 students from Norwich University and 9 international volunteers joined VFP Executive Director Meg Brook for a two week project in LaVallee. We installed 12 Biosand filters, painted the hospital, worked with a community organization to prepare for and run a kite festival, held holiday parties for kids and the elderly and celebrated the New Year and Haitian Independence Day together.
  • In November, VFP Executive Director Meg Brook led a group of 8 international volunteers for a week of service at a primary school in Desab. In addition to working in classrooms they ran a dance camp and painted the three primary rooms.
  • In August Cara Connors, VFP Board Member and Clean Water for LaVallee trainer, brought 11 international volunteers with her to LaVallee. The group ran a 2 week training for youth, installed 10 Biosand Water Filters in 2 schools, planted over 100 trees at a local water source and exchanged culture and friendship with local Haitians!
  • In July and August, 11 volunteers supported a summer day camp at the Eglise Primitive in Petionville. The group included a mother and her 8 year old daughter from the Netherlands!
  • In June, 8 volunteers worked in Duchity on the construction of a vocational school. They also ran a 1-week camp for local children.
  • In April, Clean Water for LaVallee creator and VFP volunteer Jacob Zola returned to LaVallee to oversee training, assist with the installation of 12 additional filters in 2 schools, and evaluate our project.
  • In March, VFP Executive Director Meg Brook, spent a week in LaVallee with a group of students from Norwich University exploring the challenge of water in this area. Students from Norwich will return in December to assist one school in providing water for its students.
