Volunteers For Peace (VFP) offers placement in international volunteer projects in more than 100 countries around the world including the USA. Our projects are part of an international voluntary service movement, where volunteers from multiple countries live together while working to improve local communities. Our affordable projects provide thousands of opportunities to see the world and make life-long friends while volunteering on a meaningful community service project. 2012 Scholarship Series: Theresa Swaney

My time spent in Portugal last summer is one among many international experiences. From my first trip abroad as a tourist in Mexico to teaching English in Thailand, my international experiences have shaped the person I am today. Each time I travel to another country, I am exposed to new cultures and ways of living, and my knowledge of the world increases. Participating in an environmentally focused volunteer project will allow me to not only build upon the knowledge I gained in Portugal, but also learn to approach the topic of sustainability from another culture’s perspective.
