Volunteer Opportunities in Japan
Volunteers For Peace offers projects in Japan every year for volunteers ages 18+. Japan was in the top 10 destinations for VFP volunteers in 2011! The VFP registration fee is always $350 and for most projects in Japan, that is the only fee. Short-term, long term and group opportunities are available! Despite the disaster, this is still a country of great natural beauty, enigmatic culture, smart inventions, delicious food, and out-of-this-world people. Despite my cultural & linguistic goofiness, I've been welcomed and treated with care and genuine warmth. My non-existent Japanese vocabulary has grown immensely over the last week since I arrived in Tokyo. Everyone is very eager to help, communicate, and understand. . But when words fail, a big smile and best intentions usually do the job." C. Welton ~ Japan 2011
Every day was filled with opportunities to learn, converse, laugh, and have fun. I was in such a positive atmosphere and was working with a fantastic staff, so I was constantly motivated to work. I have also realized that volunteering is not just about contributing labor. Rather, volunteering has given me gifts which I will treasure forever, such as cultural exchange and to lasting friendships with the local people." E. Roos ~ Japan 2010
