Volunteers For Peace offers projects in Kenya every year for volunteers ages 18+.Kenya was in the top 10 destinations for VFP volunteers in 2011! The VFP registration fee is always $350. Most projects in Kenya require an additional fee usually between $300-$400, payable on arrival. Short-term, long term and group opportunities are available!

I'm not sure one can really prepare for the culture shock of living in the USA and suddenly being immersed in a small village in Kenya, Africa. It becomes a reality very quickly when you have no electricity, no running water, no toilets, no bed, only a hard floor to sleep on and your new family consists of about 21 strangers representing 9 different countries and you are the only American. Now that that I am back in the United states, I cannot see the Kenyan children run to school, but I do have my pictures. There I can see their smiling faces, and the never-ending hope that today will be better. The poorest of the poor were in fact the richest people I had ever seen.
