W:Volunteers will be living and working with a not for profit circus on tour in
Dublin (Ireland). It funds its artistic objectives through commercial activities, and aims to produce
collaboration with experts from other fields, prograsseive and excellent mixed
media circus. It does this with both professional artists and through community
projects. They are an award winning company with 14 years of experience of big
top tent touring. Volunteers will live with the circus for seven weeks at their
camp in Dublin, Ireland. They will help with a variety of practical tasks such
as cooking, bar work, stewarding, selling merchandise, building tents and
staging. A: In tents, eating all meals with the circus. Volunteers should be
prepared for basic conditions Location: Dublin, Ireland. There is also the
possibility that the circus may move on to Taunton in Devon, England during the
seven weeks. Meeting Point: Dublin Central Train Station Special remarks:

W:Volunteers will be
working in Graybeard's wood and Pen Yr Allt woodland near to the village of
Rhydlewis and close to local beaches. Pen Yr Allt is a not for profit community
group set up to manage and care for 19 acres of woodland, and to ensure that
the local community are able to use and take ownership of the woodland space.
Volunteers will help with the second phase of the construction of a celtic
roundhouse. Work will involve building cord walls, cementing using a
traditional technique, covering the roof with turf and tidying up and levelling
the walls. The second part to the project will focus on the building of a 'life
path', a path encircling the roundhouse seperated into different areas
symbolising different stages in the life cycle from birth to death. Volunteers
will help with the construction and shaping of this path.There will also be a
few days of the project devoted to learning creative skills such as
woodcarving, willow weaving, making handicrafts and musical insrtuments. A: In
tents and geodomes. There is a kitchen with a gas stove for cooking as well as
an outdoor barbeque. The shower is solar powered and volunteers can also use

W: Six MTVs (medium
term volunteers) will work to support the international volunteer programme
hosted by carmarthenshire county council. MTVs will lead groups of
international volunteers who come to participate in IVPs (International
volunteer projects) for periods of two weeks. MTVs will support and manage
these projects over the summer/autumn season. These projects will be in tow
parts. The first will be environemtnal work done with the local rangers at the
council. The work will be varied but its aim is to maintain and improve access
to the countryside. Work could include footpath maintenance, putting up syiles
and fences and general maintenance. The second part will be to deliver a series
of global education workshops and community events. The MTV team will work
together (with the help of UNA Exchange) to create a 'global session' to take
around the schools and youth clubs in the local area, and to organise two
global community events. The team will further be responsible for motivating
the international volunteers for the environmental work and participating
alongside them, keeping a record of the budget, organising domestic life and
the group accommodation. On arrival MTVs will receive 8 days of training with
UNA Exchange and the county council. A: In the Glanaman youth centre in

These sessions will be informal and will concentrate on giving young people
information about where the volunteers come from and running activities with

these sessions - a national dance, simple songs, children's games, craft
activites etc. The group of medium term volunteers staying in Carmarthenshire

working in Afan Forest located in Neath and Prot Talbot. This area is often
associated with the steel industry but in fact has many beautiful areas with
spectacular waterfalls, forests and hills. UNA Exchange has worked with forest
rangers for more than 15 years and has helped improve many of the areas
important sites. Volunteers will work on a variety of tasks including woodland
management, habitat improvement and access work. A: In the community centre of
Pontardawe. The centre has a kitchen and bathrooms, showers are provided at the
swimming pool next door. LO: The Neath valley in Neath Port Talbot. The cities
of Swansea and Cardiff are nearby, as is the beautiful Brecon Beacons national

W:Golygfa Gwydyr is a
community arts organisation based in the small town of Llanrwst in Conwy, North
Wales. The organisation works with the local community to promote culture in
the Gwydir Forest. One way they do this is through something called the
Caerdroia. The Caerdrois is an area of woodland that has works and
installations by local artists displayed that complement the natural
environment. It also hosts community theatre events. Volunteers will be working
on the first phase of the round house in the caerdroia, and working together
with the local community and young people. A: volunteers will be staying in a
bunk house near the project. There will be two dormotories and two shower
rooms. Volunteers will cook for themselves in the kitchen on site. LO: In the

be working on a playscheme in the town with 7 - 11 year olds, and then on a
teen scheme with local young people. Volunteers will assist paid staff to make
sure that the young people enjoy stimulating, safe activities. Activities will
include outdoor pursuits as well as games and craft workshops. For the young
people it is also an ideal opportunity to learn about other countries and
cultures, and so volunteers should come with some ideas of games activites or songs
from their own countires that they might be able to share. A: Volunteers will
stay in the youth centre, which is well equipped with cooking and washing
facilities. The volunteers will have access to a sports hall, football pitch
and ping pong. They will cook for themselves and sleep on inflatable matresses

framed barn and cob house. They will also be continuing envioronmental land
projects, such as the community organic garden. A: Volunteers will sleep in the
farm house which has its own bathroom and kitchen. they will need to bring

Llyn Peninsula in North Wales. The area is very rural and so there are not many
ammentites like shops or pubs close by! However there is beautiful countryside
to explore and old historical sites. there will also be evenings spent

is traditionally a heavily industrialised area which has suffered as a result
of the decline of mining and heavy industry. Community centres like Maes Yr Haf
however have provided a focal point for regenerating communities. Volunteers
will be working on the summer playscheme organised by a group of local people
from Trealaw. They will be helping supervise the playscheme, which offers
activities for up to 100 children aged between 5 and 14, and assisting with
informal activities that happen throughout the day such as games, art, craft
and sports. For the children it is also an ideal opportunity to learn about
other countries and cultures and so volunteers should come with ideas for
games, songs or activities from their own countries A: Volunteers will sleep on

Community Arts is based in Betws, South Wales. Betws is an ex mining village
that has suffered disadvantages since the closure of the pits in the 1980s but
which is slowly regenerating. The project prioritises people and communities
which are at risk, vunerable or isolated and works on a range of projects in
all artforms, media and performance. The camp will be working around a global
theme to create a performance piece - the Sound of the Drum - at the end to
show parents and friends, as well as offering the kids games, time on the beach
and a range of activities. Volunteers should come with ideas of games,
activites or songs to share from their own countries with children on the
playscheme. A: At Ogmore Educational Centre - 5 minutes from the beach, the
children for the playscheme will be transported down to where the volunteers
will be staying every day. Volunteers will stay in a dormitory and have meals
in the canteen. There's a tv/games room and some other facilities such as a
sports hall. LO: At the Ogmore Educational centre, right on the beach. It's

highest village in Wales was built in the 1960s and modelled on an Italian hill
village! More recently Penrhys has unfortunately been more known for some of
its problems relating to unemployment and other social difficulties. But beyond
this is a welcoming community and the Penrhys Partnership is at the centre of
this. Volunteers will work with the Penrhys Partnership on the children's
playscheme. They will work on various activities with the children including
arts, craft and music workshops.For the children it is also an ideal
opportunity to learn about other countries and cultures and so volunteers

At the end of the project volunteers will be involved in the Penrhys festival.

Blaenllechau is situated in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. The last Rhondda
coal pit closed in 1989 leaving behind a legacy of high unemployment and severe
environmental scars. The Blaenllechau Community Regeneration programme was was
initiated by a group of villagers in 1993 to tackle the problems faced by the
community. The 'BELL' Centre hosts courses, has a community cafe and a nursery
and creche. Volunteers will work on the summer playscheme at the centre,
organising activities such as games, crafts and music.For the children it is
also an ideal opportunity to learn about other countries and cultures and so
volunteers should come with ideas for games, songs or activities from their own

W: Dare Valley is
situated just next to the town of Aberdare and offers local people a chance to
enjoy the countryside on their doorstep. The area was once heavily
industrialised but is now a beautiful area to enjoy walks and cycling.
Volunteers will work at the park to construct a child's orienteering course
with a difference. The controls for the course will be carved into wood and/or
incorporated into natural features with environemntal messages also. A: The
volunteers will stay in tha parks accommodation, there will be four volunteers
per room with a bathroom attached. meals will be provided in the canteen, There
is also a lounge and a cafe. LO: Dare valley is just outside the small town of
Aberdare and about 25 miles away from Cardiff. In free time volunteers can

Volunteers will bhe
working in the county of Carmarthenshire, known as 'the garden of Wales'
alongside local countryside rangers. Volunteers will carry out practical
environmental tasks to improve and maintain access to the countryside. tasks
will be varied but could include improving and developing picnic areas and
information points, clearing scrub and putting up stiles and fences. Volunteers
may also be involved in global education sessions in schools and youth centres.
These sessions will be informal and will concentrate on giving young people
information about where the volunteers come from and running activities with
them. Volunteers may like to think about something they could contribute to
these sessions - a national dance, simple songs, children's games, craft
activites etc.The group of medium term volunteers staying in Carmarthenshire
will help to lead these activities. A:
In Glanaman youth resource centre in dormotories. Volunteers will cook for
themselves in the kitchen on site. There is also internet access and a pool
table. LO: The smnall town of Glanaman in carmarthenshire. volunteers will be
well placed to enjoy the beautiful countryside which includes rugged coastlines
and the Black Mountain range in the Brecon Beacons. The nearest large towns are
Llaneli and swansea. Meeting point: Llanelli train station Special

W: Eryri, or Snowdonia
in English, means place of the Eagles. It is one of eleven national parks in
England and Wales and the second largest in the country. Volunteers will be
working with the park rangers. In the first week they will help to improve
footpaths in the area and in the second week they will work with the forestry
team clearing brash, planting trees and eradicating intrusive plants. A: The
first week will be spent in bunk house accommodation. The second week will be
spent in a local youth hostel in a nearby village. The group will cook for
themselves LO: Snowdonia national Park in Gwynedd. The area has no very large
towns but is well placed for spectacular mountain scenery and outdoor pursuits.
The nearest large town is Bangor Meeting Point: Bangor Train Station Special
remarks: The work will be physically demanding and could involve up to 2 hours
of walking uphill to reach the work site. Volunteers must bring STEEL TOE
CAPPED BOOTS, a sleeping bag and warm and waterproof clothing.
