This camp is going to take place in a village in
Lviv suburbs called Bryuhovychy. It is a place where the only refuge for homeless
dogs and cats is located. And it is the only one in Western Ukraine. Some
people ruthlessly leave their pets outside the refuge and go away. Local
volunteers constantly help in the refuge as often as possible: cook, clean,
build open-air cages, buy food. It’s heart breaking to watch poor animals being
neglected and left on their own. That’s why we feel that there is a strong need
to help those who can’t help themselves. Kittens and puppies stay in separate
rooms with their mummies :) WORK: cleaning the territory, levelling the
territory, getting the territory ready for building open-air cages, digging
trenches, refurbishment of the place (installing, windows, doors), taking care
of animals, providing medical care. All the animals are vaccinated against
rabies. VOLUNTEER’S SKILLS AND

to animals are welcome. BOARD AND

10 V. Ages 18-30 Fee:$250.00
The camp will be located in Zolochiv, 70 km east from
Lviv. Zolochiv Castle was built as a citadel with bastions in the 1630s. In the
17th - 18th centuries the castle belonged to the rich Polish royal families of
Sobieski and Radziwill. In the days of Austro-Hungarian empire Zolochiv Castle
was turned into a prison and later became a grim prison under Stalin. A
memorial and an exhibition to commemorate those who perished here can now be
seen in the castle as well as a chapel outside the castle walls. Inside Zolochiv Castle visitors can see a newly
restored Chinese palace built to follow European fashion for Chinese art in
late 17th century. To the right is a larger residential palace undergoing
restoration. From the bastions one could see surrounding countryside and the
town of Zolochiv. This palace is included in so called "Golden Horseshoe
Castles" of Ukraine, as the group of fortresses is located in a sort of an
arc stretching east and southeast of Lviv. The castle in Zolochiv is among the
3 best preserved ones. There are a lot
of legends about this castle, which some period of time belonged to Knights
Templars, about the single in Ukraine China palace, situated inside the castle,
about the underground secret passages where still can be met the ghost of unhappy King’s wife. Inside the
castle everyone can feel the past grandeur of ancient knights, which
unfortunately slowly goes to ruins because of lack of state funds to maintain
this unique memorial. Volunteers would also be taken to the old magic stone in
the castle courtyard. It has engraved inscriptions in unknown language and a
hole in the middle that will help fulfil your wishes if you put your finger
there :) . WORK: the grading on
fortification wall (bank), painting, other renovation works. LEISURE TIME: will include tours to
historical places, including Lviv (Lvov, Lwow)- the pearl of Ukraine,
castles. BOARD AND LODGING: in a hostel. Breakfast and lunch will be

RENO 12 V. Ages 18+ Fee:$250.00
Philharmonic Society Building Project partner:
Regional Youth Center of European Cooperation “Planet XXI”. P: The history of
the Kharkiv Philharmonic was started in 1874 as the first stationary Opera
House. The theater had a big stage, a four-circle auditorium and unique acoustics.
It was wooden and for this reason the building was taken apart in 1880th
because of fire risk. During the next 120 years the troupe didn’t have its own
place, but finally the Opera was “moved” to its actual place. But it was prone
to damage again, complete and rebuild again and again. Every event, every
milestone in the history caused changes in the architecture, style and
destination of the building. We can see extraneous features of the different
centuries and different countries (elements from Tyuirly palace of Paris,
portraits of Russian composers, allegorical agricultural and wine-making
pictures and catacombs recondite under the foundation). But in spite of its
really hard destiny the unique cultural and architectural monument of our city
fortunately held out against pitiless time including two destroying World
Wars…From 1991 the Kharkiv Philharmonic is located in the long-suffering
building, but looked like really pure… Don’t let the spiritual wealth to go to
ruin! Photo, 1880
Work: We will help to restore the front of the
Philharmonic Building, build the fountain, which will be located in front of
the building, clean and put in order inside. Maybe painting and some “make-up”
work. We will work in the place where every brick penetrates with history; we
will touch directly the spirit of the classical music, which is passing the
time! Lo: Kharkiv is the second largest city in Ukraine and its first capital.
It can truly be named a Ukrainian megapolis. It’s situated in the North-East of
Ukraine in the confluence of three rivers. Its population is 1.470.000 people.
It’s one of thebiggest scientific and cultural centers. Kharkiv is the city of
student’s and has 80 higher educational establishments. The city is famous for
its great traditions andextraordinary
historical past. In 2004 Kharkiv celebrated its 350th anniversary. A: in a
municipal building (rooms for 4-6 persons with common toilet sink and shower in
