Becej is typical, multinational town in Vojvodina, more than 900 years old, situated on right bank of river Tisa. There are a numerous cultural -historical monuments, more than 12 different nationalities and it is an example of tolerant town in the heart of Vojvodina. Bicycle is really popular in Becej as a transporting vehicle. Even in "old" Yugoslavia, Becej was the place with the highest number of bicycles per capita. There is an initiative from local municipality and local tourist organisation for bicycle to become a souvenir and trademark of Becej. Project description: For the first time we organize an international work camp in partnership with the secondary Agricultural School from small village in Vojvodina called Futog. This activity aims at upgrading the value of the site by welcoming the international volunteers in order to work on the valorization of historical wealth and to create an attractive image of the school and the village itself. This project is particularly aiming at the supporting of the local youth activism and wonderful opportunity of exchanges with the youth from foreign countries.

Futog is small village with a rich and interesting history wealth. Work will be organized in the old baroque-classictic Castle of Lord Chotec, built in the middle of the 18th sentury, where is Secondary Agricultural School located today. It is famous by the fact that it belonged to a family of Sofia Chotek, wife of Great Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, and this is the place where they resided few days before Sarajevo Attempt. W: The castle has great history and lot of mysteries which have been lately discovered. It the castle there is big basement with old dungeons and secret tunnels. Our main work will be renovating this basement and transforming it into club for school pupils and small museum and making the short movie about castle's history. On the school's property there is a big park, great sport fields and a agricultural economy with lot of fields and animals, so volunteer's job will be also some cleaning in the park and helping with making a small Panonean zoo and taking care about animals. Work will be 5-6 hours. Weekends are free. A: Volunteers will be lodged in the Internat of secondary Agricultural School, located nearby, in dormitories with beds, showers and toilets. Sljivovica village is on famous mountain tourist resort Zlatibor, situated near National Park Tara Mountain and Mokra gora, where famous film director Kusturica has his Ethno - village Mecavnik. The Sljivovica summer camp aims to provide fun, education and safe environment for children to enjoy the period of school holidays. The children are aged between 10 and 15 years old and the scheme is open to 40 children per one camp. These children are with the special needs and come in camp with theirs pedagogues and coaches. Work: The international volunteers work together with staff (educators, organizers, a nurse and a doctor) and Serbian volunteers from pedagogical faculty to provide the summer camp activities. The volunteers will help supervise the group of children participate doing a variety of indoor and outdoor activities (arts, field studies of local biodiversity and environment, crafts and games) and outdoor sports events and excursions. Volunteers will supervise the children, help them develop their English language skills but also conduct some workshops for children on their own. Tasks will also involve helping daily preparing for and clearing up after the scheme. Accommodation: In the school with beds. Project description: Koviljsko-petrovaradinski rit, marshland on the left bank of the Danube River, is protected as a Special Nature Reserve on the basis of its great nature values. The Rit looks like small rainforest in the Panonian Valley and abounds in strings, channels, swamps and deserted beds. It has great significance for preservation of habitants of different flora and fauna and its biocenosis. This beautiful nature reserve protects many rare animals, birds and fishes. The village is well known by one of the Europe's largest populations of black and white storks and for the relics of rainforest, yellow and white water lilies. Koviljsko-petrovaradinski rit is IBA Important Bird Area of international significance, and it will be suggested for Ramsar list of wetlands of international importance. One of the curiosities of the village is the Monastery of Kovilj built in 12th century dedicated to St. Archangels. This is the second largest monastery in Serbia, and it gives great opportunity to meet with Serbian culture and history. This workcamp is part of the project of Nature Conservation Bureau of Serbia, department in Novi Sad, for improvement of quality of protection of this nature area, revitalization of marsh ecosystems and   advancement of biodiversity, which were degraded by inappropriate human behavior. One of the aims of this project is also promotion of this Special Nature Reserve, incentive for development of ecotourism and preservation of tradition and customs of local inhabitants.  W:  This project involves and focuses on environmental conservation work within a nature reserve. Most of the work will be outdoors so this is a perfect project for nature lovers and all volunteers used to be outside! For the first week volunteers will work on project of revitalization of Kurjacka greda, one part of the reserve. The work will mainly include various activities in the forest: cutting and clearing unwanted grass and bushes, burning old tree brunches and brushwood and cleaning waste material which threatens original vegetation. The working place is located in the forest and volunteers every day will have transportation to the work place. On the second week of the workcamp volunteers will help in preparation of local village and monastery celebration of village patron St. Archangel Mihailo, which is traditionally held every year on the 26th of July. Work will include cleaning and arranging the area around the monastery, setting up stalls for exhibition of old handicrafts aiming at promotion of culture and tradition of local people. Despotovac is a small town (around 5000 people) in Central Serbia, 130 south km from Belgrade. The town is situated at the foot of mount Beljanica, covered with old forests of great natural beauty. There is a cinema hall is situated in the town centre. This cinema is out of use for the past 10 years because its reconstruction was never finished. Ruski Krstur is the largest settlement of the Ruthenian (also called Rusyn) national minority in the Balkans. It is placed 60km northwest from Novi Sad and it has 5000 inhabitants. Young people in this village have had very few opportunities to  express themselves in a creative or a constructive way and they are not aware of the possibilities that voluntary work can open to them. Next to the village, there is an old Backa canal with a water gate which has been turned into an open swimming pool. By arranging and developing the ground around it, we could turn it into space for sport, cultural and recreational events and motivate local young people to get  engaged. Novi Becej is a small multiethnic town in the centre of Vojvodina, 60km north from Novi Sad. People of Serbian, Roma, Hungarian and Slovakian nationalities live there in relative peace, but are not aware of the multicultural values of their local society. They are not using its potential for intercultural communication. On the contrary, the level of xenophobia has been increased during the stressful 1990s. This workcamp is organized in order to encourage the population of Novi Becej to engage in intercultural communication and accept and embrace the differences among them. This includes developing and carrying out a street performance and painting a mural. During the camp, a local volunteer will shoot an educational film about the topic. Morovic is a village of 3000 people, located about 70km southwest from Novi Sad, near the border with Bosnia and Croatia. Two rivers flow through the village, Bosut and Studva. It is surrounded by wonderful forests and a network of canals, but despite the natural beauty, the riverbanks have been neglected and ignored by local people. There is a general feeling of disinterest among the village people towards the problems and the potentials of the local community. We hope to make people aware of their own possibilities by taking action. Knic is a small town in Central Serbia, well known for its customs, folklore, traditional dresses, tasty national dishes and hospitality. This is a follow-up to the last year's camp in the same location. It willcover Gruza Lake, Borachka River and Borachka mountains. Deliblato sands is a Special Nature Reserve known as "The European Sahara", for its unique desert-like characteristics. Deliblato sands area is located in the southern part of Banat between the river Danube and the western Carphatian slopes. It includes 2 strict and 16 genetical reserves and 6 natural monuments. Devojacki bunar ("Girls' well") is a spot in Deliblato, near the Alibunar town, which stands out by its beauty. Local municipally started construction of an ethno village which includes little church and wooden houses. What is special in Becej is number of trees and parks which are made spontaneously from breeding ground's growing by time into the city recreation zone. Because it was made more from enthusiasm rather than professionalism, they are suffering from numerous faults. It lacks of appropriate recreation area, playgrounds, place for learning about nature and place for cultural and educative purpose. Workcamps have been organized in Becej parks for few years and for this year it is planned that volunteers work on renovation of one of its parks, called "Upper park" (Gornji park).   W:  Volunteers will work on redesigning and reconstruction of the "Upper Park" and its green surfaces. Also, volunteers will install new garbage bins and reconstruct old ruined benches. Work will be consisting of suspending small garbage dumps, reclamation of old dry and ill trees. Daily work will be 5-6 hours, weekends are free. Afternoon activities will be arranged among the agreement with volunteers. A: Volunteers will sleep in the tents, in the biggest "Goranski Park". Sleeping bags are necessary. Toilettes and showers are nearby. Volunteers will have to prepare their breakfast and dinner; lunch will be organized by host. The Special Nature Reserve Zasavica, covering 671 ha, is located west of Belgrade, along the Sava River. This is one of the reserves with strongest management system and in last five years it is organising very successful international voluntary workcamps. The river ecosystem, surrounded by the fragments of marshes, hygrophilous forests and meadows, dominates the area. It is characterized by the presence of rare and endemic species of animals, being endangered not only in Serbia but also in Europe, such as the fish Umbra krameri and other. However, the area has some ecological problems, mostly due to the negative impact of humans. Work: The volunteers will clean reserve Zasavica from plastic bottles and other waste. They will row the boats, collect the floating waste and take it out on the bank. Volunteers will also help in making and bird houses. Accommodation: In the house on the bank of the lake with several - bed - rooms. Language: English Location: Zasavica (www.zasavica.org.yu) is located one hour by bus from Belgrade. Volunteers should work on a material which affects them as individuals, but at the same time is connected to their culture. The theme can as well be a song one sings while tiding the room, a story, a poem, or a fairy tale one can find while reading books on traditional culture. It is preferred that the way of performing is mostly based on music and/or dance/movement: volunteers could sing a song, play a piece on an instrument, make a dramatization, and perform a short choreography... Work: workshop essentially focuses on producing contemporary drawing and exploring abstract expression in visual art. After two day mini lecture on drawing techniques, participants will take part in drawing workshop where they'll create abstract landscape and/or nude drawing on various types of paper, card box and wood (including recycled paper participants will make themselves). Deliblatska pescara (Deliblato Sands) used to be a real small desert some 150 years ago, when most of its area (approx. 300 km2) was forested to prevent sand from further spreading by the wind. However, some of its habitats remained untouched and are under protection as special nature reserves. Its precious natural resources have not been used sufficiently for educational purposes. This camp is the continuation of activities of the Young researchers of Serbia on revitalizing areas of Deliblato Sands. Work: The volunteers will assist in construction of the house - an information point at the entrance to this protected area and renovation of forest paths. Accommodation: In a house. Bring sleeping bag and mat. Language: English Location: Deliblato is between towns of Kovin and Vrsac, 70km away from Belgrade.  Terminal: Belgrade Special remarks: Some experience in manual and handicraft work, not obligatory. Stara planina (Old Mountain) is biggest and most beautiful mountain in eastern Serbia. It is also protected as an area of extraordinary natural values. Unfortunately, this area is neglected and most of the natural and tourist potentials are unrecognized and unused. Idea is to show values and possibilities of development of sustainable tourism.

Work: Reconstruction of tracking paths, creation of marking signs. Volunteers from abroad will prepare exhibition with their overview on tourist potentials which will be open in the end of the camp. Obedska Bara, an oxbow lake surrounded with marsh and forest habitats, is famous as an ornithological reserve. It is one of the oldest protected areas in the world and a wetland of international importance (listed as a Ramsar site). Wetlands are among the worlds most threatened ecosystems and this one has been gravely degraded, the most important problem being the overgrowing and disappearance of wet meadows.   Work: Volunteers will be included in the project of wet meadows revitalization by removing tree branches and clearing other vegetation. This will be the tenth camp we organize here; so far because of our activities several bird species have returned and the working site has the richest bird fauna in the reserve.  Accommodation: in the hotel "Obedska bara". Special Nature Reserve Gornje Podunavlje, protected natural area of great national importance, is part of an alluvial complex reaching into southern Hungary and eastern Croatia, and represents one of the last extensive floodplains in Europe. It is a mosaic of forests, wet and dry meadows, alluvial lakes, oxbows, ponds and marshes formed by the Danube and its formerly active meanders. Third workcamp is going to be continuation of activities on habitat restoration projects and tourism development, which started last year as part of WWF project. Cleaning includes cutting hawthorn bushes and removing them from the meadows. Simultaneously, we will make bird houses, which are going to set up around the village to create environmental friendly image, and also some tourist signs. Bac is the oldest town in the Vojvodinian western region, which has been called Backa, after the town.  There are the remains of an old fortress that is being archeologically explored, and it is an important part of Vojvodinian historical heritage. Despite these facts, the city park in Bac is in terrible condition. There is no playground or and vegetation needs to be renewed. Environmental association "Bastara" is organising voluntary workcamps since 2003 in old village Brdjani, 3km from Ljubovija. Ljubovija is small town near beautiful river Drina in the western part of the country, on the border with Bosnia. There is permanent tension to decrease number of population in this town and surroundings. Association is trying to promote eco - tourism and organic agriculture, and to offer some new reason to people from this region to stay in this marginalized part of Serbia in industrial sense, but the part who has a preserved and beautiful nature. In an an old 5 ha farm, you'll meet each others culture, customs... exchange experiences, learn one from another and all together from nature.  Work: Volunteers will help to renovate of old farm houses, collect fruits and make home made juices and jams, cleaning and cutting vegetation, take part in clean - up action (collecting recycables) in village and town. A part of work will be done together with local people. Accommodation: in old village houses, toilets and bathrooms are outside. Basic conditions: bring sleeping bag. Work: Working part of this year's camp is mural painting on the buildings in the center of Novi Becej. Ideal profile of the volunteers are mural painters, artists of all profiles, restaurateurs (they all will work under supervision of the Institute for the protection of the cultural monuments of Vojvodina and Serbia), multimedia artists and one cameraman (ideally if the volunteer could bring his own camera - to make a documentary movie about the camp). In the evenings there will be organized theatre performances, poetical evenings, national evenings (presentations of the cultures and of the volunteers and hosts countries), concerts, parties on the beach, etc. On weekends visits to cultural and historical monuments in the neighborhoods will be organised. The camp will take place in Valjevo, a little town of approximately 70.000 inhabitants, located in western Serbia. Local NGO, Research Society "Vladimir Mandic - Manda", on its 35th anniversary presented an idea of reconstructing their old premises and making Valjevo's YOUTH CENTER, located on banks of the city river, whose construction and functioning will organize themselves with help of donators. Last year a voluntary workcamp was organized, with the theme of helping "raising" this building, in many ways, doing promotional work, distributing leaflets and of course doing real "hard" work on construction site, which was very successful. This year Research Society decided to repeat the camp with the same aim - let's make this building.  Work: Together with members of research society and local volunteers participants will help "rising" this building, in many ways, from promotional campaign (distributing leaflets, designing web page, etc), organizing press - conferences, to helping professional workers on the construction site. Accommodation: The participants will be provided with accommodation by their host (family houses) and with food by local municipality either in restaurants or in camp kitchen. Becej is typical, multinational town in Vojvodina, more than 900 years old, situated on right bank of river Tisa. There are a numerous cultural -historical monuments. More than 12 different nationalities live there and give an example of a tolerant town in the heart of Vojvodina. Despite its age Becej doesn't have its own flag! The idea of the workcamp is to gather volunteers and to promote flags of their countries, sport clubs, regions in their countries and also to initiate the idea for design of flag of Becej. Volunteers will have opportunity to make the flags of their ideas, ideals, of workcamp, and to set up the exhibition which will be the offspring for Becej Centre of world flags. Boljevci is multicultural and multi confessional village in Belgrade suburb. There are 5000 inhabitants, and 40% of them are Slovaks. The traditional village ethno festival is main cultural event for people of Boljevci and other nearby villages. Volunteers will help local youth cultural organisation in preparation for this event. Work: First few days volunteers will work around of "Old cinema" building, clean up the center of village, house of culture, school yard and other spaces where village festival will take part (cleaning village square, painting walls, cutting grass, planting flowers and trees...). Last 5 days volunteers will help with preparing exhibitions, concerts and other festivals activities. Accommodation: in building of "Old cinema". Project description: This work camp is organized in cooperation with Youth Centre of Ruma network organization consisting of: Ruma City Theatre, Scouts, Literature Youth, Art association, Society of multimedia avangarde, Cancer prevention society and JAZAS youth-society for AIDS prevention. Fruska Gora Mountain surrounded by numerous monasteries and protected areas of nature. Ruma City Theatre is establisher of the Trema festival (www.tremafest.co.yu) which is in the end of the March happening in Ruma for the 10th time. This international theater festival of multicultural activities and youth projects offers numerous entertaining and educative programs. Good results from the workcamp organized last year encouraged organizers to continue tradition and organize it this year for the second time.  W: Volunteers will work on preparation and realization of two theatre performances of the Ruma City Theatre for the 11th TREMA fest-Cinderella puppet play and ambient rock and roll forum-theatre. Also they will work on improvement of technical, video product ional and creative conditions for the work of the art TREMA studio, painting of the walls and stage,  setting up the stage, making pults for presentations, making and updating theatre documentation, press clipping, making videos and photos for the documentation. After preparation of planned performances we will form Mobil Art Trema project (performances, show and presentations) which will b used as a presentation in partner cities: Novi Sad, Karlovci, Stara Pazova, during their summer festivals. A movie about Art workcamp with the short performance we will present within the traditional Ruma Fair and afterwards on the opening on the opening of Trema Fest in March 2008. Palic Zoo (Zoo Animal Enrichment and Development of the Wildlife Rescue Center) is a small zoological garden located in Palic, a village near Subotica. Subotica is a town at the north of Serbia near Hungarian border. The process of modernization of the Palic Zoo has started few years ago by broadening the mission onto nature conservation and improvement the standards for keeping wild animals in captivity. In all activities we try to increase active participation of schools and specialized group as well as general public.  Work: Vols will be included in activities on improvement of the Wildlife Rescue Centre namely, building a railing barrier (cca. 200 m) around the enclosures for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife and preparing an artificial pond for waterfowls. We will also construct different enrichment objects and devices for wild animals in the Zoo like special feeders, toys, artificial pray or items for training.
