Moldova – Tarna Rom (Organisation of young Roma people in Moldova)

Languages: English, French, Romanian, Russian  The project: The workcamp is to take place in Ursari, a community of around 350 Roma people in the scenic northwestern part of Moldova. Only a small primary school exists locally, where 20 children between the 1st and 4th levels of school education are instructed in two cycles by one sole teacher, in one single room. Work: Renovation of primary school in Roma community. Volunteers will mainly contribute to the renovation of the school; some of them will organise small activities for children living in the community. Study & Leissure time: Volunteers will spend the afternoons learning about the current life of Roma people in Moldova. At the end of the camp, a celebration will be organised in Ursari, together with the local community. Excursions and participation in the day of the Romanian language in Chisinau will acquaint the volunteers with Moldovan culture and the general situation in Moldova today. Volunteers are encouraged to bring information about their own countries, photos, life, music, games, etc. Participants are asked to contribute 10 Euro towards the costs of organising, to be paid upon arrival. This is the first workcamp in Moldova after a pause of some years. Accommodation: All participants will be accommodated in the newly renovated primary school in the village of Buda, about 600 meters from the Ursari community. Meals will be prepared by groups of 3 participants each day, supported by the chef at the school canteen.   

Remarks: Motivation form required: All volunteers are asked to write a short text describing their interest in this camp when applying. Age 21-40. Applications of people above this age are also welcome.
