for a general introduction to our programs in Africa. KVDA RESOURCE CENTER CONSTRUCTION.
Background:Since inception in
1962, KVDA has actively been involved in community development projects
nationwide with focus on empowerment and capacity building for community based
organizations. For many years, KVDA offices have been housed in rental houses
in the city of Nairobi and this has been very costly to KVDA whose resources
are specifically sourced from membership subscriptions and contributions from
volunteers participating in the projects. The idea of KVDA Resource Center is
the culmination of efforts to ensure that KVDA has a permanent home to house
its secretariat and this will double as the center for the organization to
carry out community related training as part of the larger capacity building
initiatives. Location: Half acre plot
was bought in Ruiru municipality, Thika district in Central Province which is
adjacent to the north eastern border of Nairobi. The district is predominantly
rural but its urban population is soaring as Nairobi is growing rapidly.Thika
district has a population of approximately 645 713 persons. This has led to a
real estate boom owing to the growing demand for residential sites among people
based in Nairobi because of its
proximity (about 40km) .The project is roughly 3km away from one of Kenya's
local universities - Kenyatta University. Majority of the inhabitants of that
area are Kikuyu speakers who are among the largest ethnic groups in Kenya. Climate: Moderate and sometimes cold due to
proximity to the Kenya highlands but the area enjoys sunlight and rainfall
evenly annually and is famed for agricultural productivity. Activities: * building and construction *
tree planting * brick making Theme: Our
main focus will be alternative learning and empowerment of communities through
mobilization of resources. Volunteers:
Both skilled and unskilled who are motivated to translate the Resource centre
idea into a reality to empower the people through KVDA programs. The volunteers
should be instrumental in support of the noble idea to construct a resource
center to enhance the work of KVDA as this will ensure more efficiency and
effectiveness in delivery of KVDA development agenda at the grassroots.
