Volunteer Voices

The time went by quickly. We made friends, made progress and made papa (a traditional staple food). Some of my favorite memories are playing card games huddled around a pot of cooking beans, waking up and hearing the girls ask the people on kitchen duty for "breakfast in bed," trying to speak in Sesotho, going hiking and seeing the beauty of the land and running with Kizo, a fellow volunteer, up the hills of Lesotho. At the work site, I enjoyed digging and helping to create a concrete slab for the foundation. I loved the entire experience. I truly feel as if I did not just learn about Basotho culture- I participated.”
