Volunteer Voices
We would eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner with the residents and during our time off in the evenings we would play cards, billiard, or foosball together, and almost always the residents would join us. We not only connected with the children, but with the adolescents and adults. There were many nights spent in a resident’s room drinking tea and discussing life. No matter what their culture, background, or difficulties were, all the residents embraced our presence and welcomed us into their homes and in the lives of their children. It was a powerful and humbling experience.
As I look through my pictures of the camp, I miss the residents, especially all of the children. They found a permanent place in my heart and I will never forget them. I am so thankful I did this trip through VFP and will continue using their services to find more trips. Not only do you learn so much from others from all over the world, but you learn so much about yourself. It’s a beautiful experience and I hope everyone takes the opportunity to do a trip like this.\"
