Volunteer Voices

This volunteer work camp really was the opportunity of a lifetime and I enjoyed every second of it. The work itself involved building a stone wall around a valley in preparation for the nation\\\'s biggest festival. Though the work was grueling and the weather wasn\\\'t always agreeable, the people (great people from all over the world) and the scenery - the most beautiful islands, cliffs, volcanoes, and bird-life imaginable - made every second awe-inspiring and fun, to say the least. During the festival, which we had an absolute blast attending, the work became cleaning up the mountains of garbage left by the festival-goers over the four days, yet still, the people and the island itself made the grueling work worth it...even pleasurable. The accommodation was more than expected, a friendly sports center, complete with kitchen and cable TV!! Cooking meals for 30 people was a bit scary but turned out to be quite the fun experience and all the foreign volunteers enjoyed the taste of some true Texas chili. The camp, though it had its fair share of disorganization and problems, only built up the group\\\'s camaraderie and added to the fun experience. This really was the experience of a lifetime and both this camp or even just this destination are highly recommended!\\\"
