Volunteer Voices
This was clearly one of the photography project’s goals: not only did they want us to turn our camera’s lenses on Valjevo and show them what we saw, they also wanted us to look inward on our own, preconceived notions of Serbia. Indeed, Serbia has long suffered from a poor reputation in the rest of Europe and abroad due to a legacy of politics, nationalism and war. However, by the end of the camp, the volunteers were able to take with them only the most positive impressions of this proud and hospitable country. It was a true pleasure to participate in this workcamp and I would gladly do so again.”
