Volunteer Voices
There were 10 local and 14 international volunteers that came from 10 different countries in our group on Zanzibar. During our two weeks together we learned a lot about each other, ourselves, different cultures and that how in spite of our differences we can work together in peace and harmony towards a mutual goal. The activities that we were involved in included planting mangrove trees, playing with the local kids after school, painting the school, planting trees around the school as well as spreading awareness about malaria and environmental issues. I do feel that our work made a difference in the lives of the people in the village. It was a rewarding experience, which will last a lifetime. The local organization, UVIKIUTA, the host community and our camp leaders were professional, helpful and supportive.
