Volunteer Voices

My two-month summer volunteering project at the Aruking Club Nature Center in Gunma, Japan, was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Every day was filled with opportunities to learn, converse, laugh, and have fun. I was in such a positive atmosphere and was working with a fantastic staff, so I was constantly motivated to work. I have also realized that volunteering is not just about contributing labor. Rather, volunteering has given me gifts which I will treasure forever, such as cultural exchange and to lasting friendships with the local people. I reflect upon my project with only positive thoughts, and I will take these memories with me as I look for future opportunities to volunteer abroad.”
