Volunteer Voices

Volunteering at the lodge was a great way to get involved with the families that run the lodge. We worked side by side with many of the Costa Ricans who run the lodge. The work was for the most part manual labor. Some days were more physically challenging than others. But the volunteer coordinator was great. He did everything we did and more. I was the oldest volunteer and was thrilled that I was able to go with my daughter and share in the experience. We stayed in volunteer quarters and socialized on our time off, evening and weekends with the other volunteers. Some of the Costa Rican workers socialized with us volunteers which made it even more fun. The whole experience was wonderful. I left the country and my site with good feelings and what started out as a chance to volunteer somewhere with my daughter turned out to be a way to experience Costa Rica in a more meaningful way than if I went as a tourist.\"
